A former three-star recruit, Alex Montgomery was one of three freshman wide receivers forced into action in 2013. He appeared in eight games before suffering a season-ending torn ACL while celebrating his second touchdown of the season in early November. Montgomery missed 2014 spring practice and preseason camp while rehabbing from the injury and was sidelined for most of the 2014 season. The Kentucky coaching staff decided to preserve Montgomery's redshirt in 2014 rather than play him late in the season after he returned to practice.
