H.S. Scouting Report

Projection
Power-5 StarterBurly safety who owns virtually college-ready size for his position thanks to adequate height and impressive bulk. Built like a hybrid spacebacker or off-the-line outside linebacker. Valuable prospect because of potential scheme versatility and personnel flexibility. Ample experience playing multiple levels -- deep and close to the line -- against strong Texas Class 6A competition. Good option to play in the box. Capable in run support. Can find ways through traffic. Sometimes packs a punch at the point of arrival, particularly when able to build speed coming downhill. Closes well on his target when playing forward. Can provide the big hit. Sneaky ability to cover chunks of territory. Shows ability to disrupt at the catch point. Great athletic pedigree. Can improve tackle technique consistency. Tackles high at times, which negates size advantage. Athleticism has not been verified in a combine testing environment as of spring 2019 (times scratched at The Opening Dallas). Overall twitch and play speed can improve, particularly to help in downfield coverage. Given size as a high school junior, is he a 'tweener long-term? Intriguing back-seven defender with possible position- and scheme-versatility who could get on the field early. Potential to become a multi-year P5 starter and perhaps long-term pro ceiling with proper development.
