Ja'Kobe Walter

Walter is a high-volume scorer on the wing with good size, length, and natural strength. At his best, he’s a two-way power wing who has continued to develop his guard skills and has untapped defensive versatility that should become a bigger part of his DNA in the future. He’s naturally strong, with a long and chiseled build, but not always especially agile. He’s a solid athlete who runs the floor with long and powerful strides. Offensively, he played with the ball in his hands and had almost complete freedom this spring and summer. He’s evolved into a tough shot-maker off the dribble who looks for his pull-up, both in the mid-range and behind the arc, and is capable of getting hot and making shots in bunches. While he’s shown some vision and passing ability at times, he tends to hunt his shots and play a ball-dominant style. He was one of 3SSB’s leading scorers, but was not efficient doing it – shooting just 36% from the floor including 29% from behind the arc and 43% on two-point field goals. He may always have an aggressive scoring mentality, but he must improve his shot-selection and also better utilize his passing ability. Walter could also stand to keep developing his handle and spot-up shooting ability off the catch, with a low release from his shoulder. Overall, he’s closer to maxed out physically than most high school seniors, but his skill-set and scoring ability has continued to ascend. His untapped upside will come from evolving into a more efficient offensive player and embracing his potential as a defender and wing rebounder.
