Reminds Us Of

Keith Randolph Jr. Illinois Fighting Illini

Junior year was first of playing high school football but adjusted quickly and was frequently making plays in the backfield. Basketball background shows up in his athleticism and movement. Has good quickness off the snap and closing speed, especially at his size. Has the frame to still grow further. Could ultimately line up almost anywhere along the defensive line and in a variety of schemes and fronts. Currently is more of an edge-rusher, but could kick inside at times and play end in an odd front also. Physical for how new he is to the game. Still has work to do technically and with his hands, but he should continue to pick up the nuances of the position and all the physical tools are there.

H.S. Athletic Background

Also plays basketball.
All-region selection on the hardwood as a junior.
Leading all-time scorer for Western Hills.
----
2023: First season playing high school football. Finished year with 14.5 sacks.

Sources Tell Us

“I’ve had the opportunity the last six years to coach seven other guys who have played Division I football, one being a starter at Tennessee as a sophomore and I’ll be honest, Javeon’s upside is higher than really just about anybody’s I’ve coached. It’s just the combination of size, speed and really the tenacity it takes to play at that level. I really think the sky's the limit for him. He's the type of kid that you look at and say might have the opportunity to play on Sunday. It's rare to see that but I've had a lot of other coaches tell me the same thing. He’s a really good kid, comes from a great family – it starts at home, and it makes it real easy to coach him.” -- Western Hills head coach Simon Vanderpool
