Jay Mentink

Mentink is a player we've been tracking for a few years and he's just a polished, all-around player who is at his best in the secondary, but is just as dangerous catching passes or in the return game. A two-sport standout (he also plays baseball), Mentink plays his safety spot with great field and coverage awareness and has some of the best ball skills you'll find in the region, able to break on passes and snag them out of the air. He doesn't hesitate to lower the boom either, a physical presence in the secondary even if he's not the biggest out there, but he closes so well and can make a big hit to end plays. The game we saw him, he had an early momentum swinging pick then followed it up with a touchdown catch and elevated his game even more.
