Reminds Us Of

Benjamin St-Juste Washington Commanders

A big, fluid corner with plenty of tools. Changes directions and opens up his hips better than most defensive backs his size. Is quick to read and react. Does a nice job of planting his feet while in reverse and then driving towards the football. Seems to be in the right spot more times than not and has a good understanding about how to play both man and zone coverage on the outside. Never really tested on the lasers, but doesn’t lack foot speed and did post a respectable 11.46 in the 100-meter dash as a freshman. Hasn't really been the focal point of an offense before, but got snaps at wide receiver throughout prep career, which helped hone elite ball skills. Global pandemic affected much of junior season, but still managed to appear in 29 varsity games his final three years of high school. Ended up picking off four passes while breaking up 17 more during that stretch. Will need to add some core strength and keep progressing, but has the looks of a future impact player at the Power 5 level given how he moves and eliminates throwing windows. Likely to find the most success as a field corner in a more aggressive defensive scheme. Frame (measured 6-foot-2.5 summer before senior year) and explosive tendencies (has a vertical jump well north of 35 inches) should have him on the radar of NFL scouts one day. Might not need a redshirt.

H.S. Athletic Background

Ran track as a freshman. Went 11.46 in the 100 and 23.17 in the 200-meter dash in spring of 2019.

2021: Two-way player for a Mauldin program that went 6-4 playing in Palmetto State’s AAAAA classification. Worked in the secondary alongside North Carolina safety/linebacker signee Duce Caldwell. Ended up totaling 29 tackles (25 solo) two interceptions and five pass break ups in six games. Earned all-state and all-region honors. Was selected to Touchstone Energy North-South Bowl, but did not participate due to injury (shoulder). Did, however, compete at the Under Armour All-America Game where his leaping interception made SportsCenter’s Top Ten.
