Reminds Us Of

Jaylon Smith Dallas Cowboys

Lean right now with length. As a former safety who has transitioned to linebacker, he filled out more between his junior and senior seasons but still has room to grow. A fantastic athlete who posted rare track results for a player his size. Is very comfortable in space. His offensive output as a senior showcased his ball skills as well as his speed. He is excellent in man-to-man coverage. He runs to the ball with ease. He has gotten more comfortable in the box as far as navigating traffic and taking on blocks. Increased strength and technical work as far as his hands and pad level will further improve that part of his game. At one point, he was considered more of a hybrid safety/backer, but as he grew into his body, that projection changed to SAM. As athletic as he is, he did not rush the passer much in high school and that may be something he needs to work on if asked of him in college. If he can add good weight early he can play right away, but he projects as an impact linebacker because he should not have to come off the field. He will be a great tester and his versatility gives him a chance to be an early round NFL draft pick.
