H.S. Athletic Background

COLLEGE: (2013 preseason- South Carolina)- Talented tailback who has seen very little time on the gridiron in his first two years with the Garnet & Black... has been hampered by injuries in each of his first two seasons at Carolina, limiting him to just three games... had a knee injury as a true freshman in 2011, then a wrist injury in 2012... did not participate in spring ball as he was an outfielder on the South Carolina baseball team. 2012: Redshirt freshman who injured his left wrist early in camp and underwent surgery in late August... did not see any game action until the Outback Bowl when he caught two passes for one yard in the win over Michigan... a member of the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll... did not go through spring drills or play baseball while rehabbing a knee injury. 2011: True freshman who quickly moved up the depth chart... carried the ball three times for nine yards... rushed two times for seven yards in the season opener against East Carolina... also had a 23-yard kickoff return in that contest... suffered a torn ACL in his knee on his only carry at Georgia.... missed the rest of the season... petitioned for a medical redshirt. HIGH SCHOOL: Jacquese "Shon" Carson was a two-sport standout at Lake City (S.C.) High School... also a highly-touted baseball player and could play for Ray Tanner's Gamecocks in the spring after being selected in the 44th round of the MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds... became just the third player in South Carolina history to tally 100 career touchdowns, joining former Byrnes standout Marcus Lattimore and former Lexington product Demetris Summers... helped his team to the third round of the Class AA state playoffs as a senior... played in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas... earned the game's Offensive MVP award for South Carolina after rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and catching four passes... also played in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl... three-star prospect according to 247Sports.com.
