Reminds Us Of

Devin Lloyd Jacksonville Jaguars

The hidden gem of the 2023 cycle. Might be from a town of less than 1,500 people, but created quite the stir inside scouting circles when he posted one of the more eye-popping state lines you will ever see in a state title game: 32 carries for 337 rushing yards, four touchdowns and four two-point conversions to go along with six tackles and an interception. Athletic enough to probably play wide receiver or running back at the Power Five level, but future appears to be on the other side of the ball as a second-level defender given how he moves and hits. Spent much of senior season working as a slot defender and oftentimes would line up outside the hashes. Ability to close gaps in the snap of a finger is impressive. So is his seek-and-destroy mentality as a tackler as he will strike ball carriers with authority and then roll his hips through contact. Picked off six passes his final two years of high school and was one of the top linebackers in coverage at Under Armour All-America Game as he was able to hang with most of the tight ends and some of the slot receivers assembled in Orlando. A lack of verified data isn’t exactly ideal, but aces the eye test with a lean, wiry frame that appears to be over 6-foot-2 and pushing at least 205 pounds. Could be molded into a variety of different things in a variety of defensive schemes, but projects best as a three-down linebacker that can do a little bit of everything including rush the passer. Must eventually add some weight, but sky appears to be the limit given how he moves and runs for someone with his frame. Should be on the radar of NFL scouts one day.
