First Round

Reminds Us Of

Nik Bonitto Denver Broncos

Modern edge defender with adequate height/weight and good length with a long-armed build that accompanies sneaky body density that should aid run-game effectiveness. Three consecutive double-digit sack seasons for one of Texas' highest-profile programs. Three-sack 6A D-I state championship game garnered Defensive MVP honors as a senior in Dec. 2023. Most dangerous from a two-point stance. Flashes initial athleticism that prevents some tackles from even touching him. Displays excellent dip-and-bend flexibility and screams around the arc to get home regularly. Productivity dipped as a senior, though still respectable (21 TFL, 10 sacks). That followed a school-record 22.5 sacks as a junior. Elite pursuit speed couples with impressive redirecting suddenness to allow for chase-down plays. Often makes the most of hand quickness and length with encouraging disengaging ability vs. much larger opponents. Capable of winning with secondary rush. Targets the ball and goes for the strip. Gets his hands up when he's not getting home and knocks down a high number of throws. Athleticism and playmaking drive occasionally run him out of plays. Will need some mass and additional strength to stand up to the run game vs. high-major opponents. Will encounter tackles who can hold their own outside, so continued sharpening of promising hand violence and secondary rush are keys. Physical traits and functional athleticism join consistent effort. Gonna get swallowed up by mass from time to time, but plays with energy and shows better-than-expected POA strength relative to size and physical specs. Numerous scouting exposures and three-year productivity solidified his standing as one of the nation's top pass rushers across multiple classes. Projects as a potential multi-year impact player at the Power Five level with a long-term ceiling that could lead to early-round NFL Draft consideration.
