H.S. Scouting Report

H.S. Athletic Background

Jernigan had a strong season as he contributed significantly on an Allen defense that held opponents to 14 points or less on eight occasions in 2018, including two shutout victories over Horn and Coppell. As a junior he was a first-team All-District 6A-9 selection and finished with 60 tackles and 14.0 tackles for loss. As a sophomore he was the District Defensive Newcomer of the Year. He was part of the Allen team that won the 2017 UIL Class 6 Division I state championship and teams that made three semifinal appearances in 2015, 2016 and 2018.

Scouting Report: Jernigan plays the one technique and A-gap like a linebacker. He is not a huge overpowering guy, but he has excellent balance. He is very hard to knock off his feet or even off his stride and he can bounce a gap either way and then fight he way back into the gap he was knocked out of. That balance is what makes it really hard to nullify him. He is quick, uses his hands well, and has good vision for playing inside around a lot of people. He finds the ball quickly and attacks and makes the tackle. The biggest thing I see him needing at the college level is more strength and he will get it with the Cowboy strength and conditioning staff. He is not going to get a lot bigger but can be stronger and stay with the athletic ability and agility he has and uses to his advantage. I could see him moving around some and playing a three technique, even outside in a three-man front.
