Matthew Johnson

Johnson is a true interior lineman who can play tackle or as a three-tech. He’s a strong kid who can take on double teams and still get a push. One on one, he’s a load to deal with and just bullies opposing guards and centers at the high school level. He plays for a legendary program at De La Salle and has been very well coached in terms of his technique. He knows how to use his hands, gets off the ball really well and has a great motor. He has long arms and can easily disengage from an opposing lineman and make a tackle. He’s quick off the snap and can win with a swim or beat a man before he can get out of his stance. He also has a nice mean streak in him and plays with the kind of nastiness you need to have to excel in the trenches. It’s a controlled aggression but he’s not a fun player to line up against. When you look at his 6-5, 245 pound frame, athleticism and play making ability, Johnson is easily among the top defensive line prospects out West.
